Original Chick Strand Painting, Red Snapper, from her Gone Fishing series.
Known for her pioneering work as an experimental filmmaker, lesser known were her paintings which Chick started when she retired from film.
This work is one of several paintings of Chick's, sold to a friend who pays tribute to Chick's work:
"It is one of many paintings done be my friend, Chick Strand, a well known name in film as art/experimental film world and very well known in those circles. When she stopped making films, she began painting and did many of the mandala type imagery you see in that paining. I have 3 others. I fell in love with her paintings but now I just don't have space for it all. She had an LA exhibit which she named, "I Have No Idea." I spent time with her in Mexico in the early 80's and then for the 6 years lived in LA and after... until her death. Canyon Cinema still distributes her films.
Although chick strand always indicated that she had no idea what her paintings meant, I always felt that they were spiritual and modeled after a certain style of mandalas."
